Competition Design Ideas

Ok so if you need your mojo kick starting here are some non-card projects I've been working on this week....
Recipe Journal
This is a really simple project using the 'Cutest Cupcake' Crafty Template. This template is available to purchase from Crafty Templates as a download or a printed template. It's also available to subscribers free of charge in the subscribers area.
Ok so using the Cutest cupcake template I printed it out at 50% reduced size using my printer options, (there is a smaller size to use on the template sheet if you can't do this). I then cut out the template from the sheet, cutting the whole shape out first then pinning it to some felt and cutting around the shape. I then cut the template pieces up, cutting the case off the bottom and the icing bit from the top, pinned them on to more felt in different colours and cut out. I've used embroidery floss to stitch the pieces together, layering the case and icing over the whole template piece and finishing the cherry detail with a red button.
Using a Bind it all machine I've created a little 5x5 journal with lined paper inside and index points. The front and back covers I've cut from a sheet of Bazzill card. You could also use ribbon or bookrings to bind your journal or decorate a pre made one.
I've used some Dream Street patterned paper, Making Memories parcel tape, Heidi Swapp chipboard and Love Elsie stickers to decorate the front of my journal then finished it off with the felt cupcake as the main embellishment.
You can use the little felt cupcakes to decorate so many other projects, how about making them into cute tea towel embellishments or dress up a bag. You could even make really tiny ones into mega cute jewellery!
Letter Rack
This letter rack is a cool way for boys to keep their post organized, (a project inspired by my brother who's always loosing his work expense!)

Ok so first you need to make your letter rack, this is mega simple all I did was chop out three rectangle chipboard pieces, one for the front, one for the back and one smaller for the base.
Glue the pieces together with PVA glue or a glue gun so it makes a kind of 'H' shape but so the top of the H is higher than the bottom...
While it's drying you can make your front embellishment. I used the 'Sports Shoe' Crafty Template for mine. I made it up as per the instructions, cutting out the shape then the detail from plain and patterned paper but instead of making a shaped card I've just made the front piece to stick on the front of my letter rack. I added some eyelets and threaded some black jewellery cord through to create the laces effect. The paper I used is, 3 Bugs in a Rug 'seeing stars' from the March Crafty Goodies kit.

Before adding the shoe embellishment to the front I painted the letter rack with some Making Memories 'Waterside' blue acrylic paint. The 'letters' I added is Bazzill chipboard.

Cupcake Handy HolderYou can adapt this idea for many of the shaped card templates, using the straight edges (fold lines on your template) to bind the edges together. I used my Bind it All machine and ribbons to bind the edges together to make the 3D shape but you could just as easily make holes with a hole punch or eyelet setter.

I again used the 'Cutest Cupcake' Crafty Template for this project cutting out the shaped card size template from the sheet. I sketched around the edges on to some greyboard (you can use thinner chipboard too) and cut out four of the cupcake shapes. I've then used the template, separating the case and icing pieces and drawing around them onto patterned paper to decorate each of the chipboard pieces with. The opposite side of the chipboard I painted with cream acrylic paint. Once all that was dry I made the holes along the sides with a Bind it All machine and while matching up the holes on the sides threaded ribbons through and tied to fix the sides together and make kind of like a bottomless box shape. I added some buttons for sprinkles to finish off the design.

It'd make a fab holder for loads of different things, in the pic I've got napkins and plastic cutlery ready for a picnic but I did think also it could make a cute decorative cover for a plant pot or a holder for pens etc.

So hope you feeling all inspired now to use your stash and ready to get crafty with some Crafty Templates!

xx Leonora
