Another 'Hot Date' idea.

If you'd like to see what exactly it is I've made using the adorable swatch of fabric from the 'Hot Date' Quirky Kit, then hop over to this post on my own blog.

I'll see you there.

'Hot Date' Quirky Kit idea

If, like me, you're so in love with your 'Hot Date' Quirky Kit that you're finding it difficult to decide on one single project to use it all up on .... then why not make something temporary with it until you decide?

Here I've used several of the papers from the kit to decorate a plain wooden clothes peg:
I was inspired to make one after watching my friend Hannah decorate a much larger peg last week. You can see hers on her blog here.

It's simply a matter of removing the spring from the peg, applying a strong glue to the front and the edges [I used Crafter's Pick: Incredibly Tacky] and placing it onto your chosen paper. Then trim off the excess with a sharp craft knife.

Once the glue had dried entirely, I sanded the edges to create a smoother finisher, then inked them to create a slight shabby feel. Finally, using the same glue, I added a magnetic strip to the back so that I can use it with my magnetic notice board in my craft room.
You can buy magnetic tape from most well-stocked craft stores, however .... the thrifty crafter that I am, I've used the strips from the back of the magnetic 'L' plates I used while I was learning to drive over 6 years ago now! I knew they'd come in useful one day!

The key reason I thought of this idea was my reluctance to stick down those very smart Elle's Studio calendar tags which are included in the kit. Using the peg as a calendar holder means that you can use the tags for their intended date-keeping purpose during that particular month ....

...but, afterwards they can then be simply unclipped and added to a layout with a photo from that month. A great way to get two uses from one set of supplies.

I'll be back with another project just as soon as I can convince myself to cut something up and stick it down!

I hope you're all enjoying your Hot Dates!

Hot Date Quirky Kit Inspiration

So you have your Hot Date Quirky kit and you'd like some ideas of what you can do? Julie will be along soon with some fab ideas and in the mean time here's what I made.......
The front and back covers are made with the chipboard in the kit cut to shape just using a template, I PDF'd it if you'd like to use the same shape it's here, http://www.craftytemplates.co.uk/pageshapetemplate.pdf
I also used some of the fabric, ribbon the blossom and the buttons stitched on to the front as well as covering the chipboard with some of the patterned paper. The little handles I made using the elastic threading the beads on (13 on each side) and then tying them though little holes on to the front and back covers. These also work to hang up the calendar from.

To construct the book pages I used the shaped template again and cut out the kraft card in the kit then used the roll of woodgrain tape to bind each page together. To use the tape cut it into equal strips, fold each strip in half and attach two pages together. Follow on attaching the remaining pages in the same way until they're all together.

I used the larger piece of woodgrain sticky backed plastic to cover over where the back of the sticky tape showed along the spine, cutting it to shape and rounding the corners to match the look of my book. I also added a bit of ribbon tied around the spine and one of the tags that I laminated (so it can be used over) and covered the back of the tag with the remaining woodgrain sticky backed plastic.

On the inside I used the patterned papers to decorate each page. I've not added photos in yet because I'm thinking it would be good to add photos from that particular month so when it's done as a calendar it will still be nice to keep as a record of the year.
The bottom half of the page where the calendar is I kept plain so there's plenty of room for notes. I'm thinking of using a date stamp to add in important dates to remember like birthdays etc.
I've made some little tags for each page to record details of the photos as I add them using a Banana Frog stamp and stamping it on cardboard.
There's just one idea of what you can make. Have you delved into your box yet? Can't wait to see what you make!

My Space Minibook

As part of the fab Summer minibook event going on over on UKScrappers.co.uk here's a cute little project for you to have a go at, check out the free Crafty Templates project 'My Space Minibook...

It's the perfect project to use up leftover scraps of card and paper as you can use it to make everything from the pages down to the binding.

Here are some examples of what you can make..... This example was made by DT member Tracy Gough,

This example was made with goodies from the Juicy Fruit Quirky Kit.

Have fun creating your book!

As a little bit more fun I've put together a special one off kit perfect for minibook making. It's got some scrummy stuff including some of the lush Rose Moka Pique-Nique and Kitschy Digitals goodies from the Juicy Fruit Quirky kit, some Sassafras Me Likey and wee Sunshine Lollipop papers, loads of Bazzill cardstock and co-ordinating trimmings and embellishments, a set of brand new felt buttons (that aren't on the CT site yet but will be v soon) and a very cute Prima mini stamp set. It's got the most adorable little birdie stamp along with an inkpad and tags. It's the perfect scrummy treat after all your hardwork using up your leftovers!
If you'd like to win all you need to do is leave a comment and I'll pick one out at random on Monday 17th August.

Happy crafting
